Use of chat gpt, AI in the field of optometry

Since its launch, chat gpt has become a topic of discussion globally. Here we will discuss about use of chat gpt, AI in the field of optometry. What is chat gpt? Chatbot GPT is an artificial intelligence language model developed by OpenAI. GPT stands for “Generative Pre-trained Transformer.”

A product of human mind

This model is designed to produce human-like responses to user inputs, allowing for natural and interactive dialogs. It can understand and generate texts in a variety of languages and try to answer the queries of people in a possible way.

Chat gpt in the field of health care

Healthcare ensures the quality of life by providing prevention, treatment and eradication of ailments. Health is not a joke to anybody and a little responsible behavior can save a person’s quality life. According to the words of chat gpt “ When is comes to healthcare, it is best to rely on qualified medical professionals, such a doctors, nurses or specialists, who have necessary expertise and can provide personalized advice based on your specific situations.”

Chat gpt in the field of optometry

What is optometry? Optometry is the branch of medical sciences and health care profession which focuses on the treatment, management and diagnosis of eye and vision related problems.

Who are optometrists

Optometrists are the primary healthcare workers who ensure the diagnosis and treatment of a range of eye conditions and diseases. Moreover they also provide contact lenses, low vision therapy and pediatric assessment to squints as well.

Chat gpt can help answering questions related to the field of optometry and for sure it requires accurate and to the point information. This type of information can only be provided by someone who knows medical terms e.g. for eye pain the term is “eye strain” , if a person feels eye strain and headache and tiredness in his eyes and notices any change in his vision then all these symptoms are associated as “aesthenopic symptoms”.

Chat gpt and diagnosis of disease

Moreover chat gpt can not exactly diagnose the reason behind your deterioration of vision. It could be due a simple biological change in the optical system or cataract onset or something that is damaging the peripheral or central retina.

No specific diagnosis but a list of diagnosis

Moreover if a person constantly rubs his eye balls there can be a number of reasons for this e.g. eye strain, dry eyes, allergies, eye strain, fatigue of muscles, hyperopia etc. the exact reason can only be diagnosed if you make an appointment to the optometrist or ophthalmologist.

Human brain above any AI tool

The human brain is developed in such a way that in a certain field of career it only grows with the age. Hence an experienced ocular physician can also diagnose any underlying condition or ask you any symptom that you do not feel regularly but it can be very helpful for the diagnosis. This can only be asked by an experienced optometrist or ophthalmologist.

Subjective tests requirement

Moreover whenever there is a requirement of subjective measurement for refractive errors, thickness of your retina layers, value of manifest or latent squints in prism diopters, thickness of corneal layers, presence of any foreign body, value of intra-ocular pressure, examination of retina in case of any history of diabetic retinopathy and hypertension etc; you need to make an appointment.

Need of more healthcare professionals

All the artificial intelligence tools are the products of human mind and you can not underestimate the power of brain and thinking. The AI tools can be very helpful and will be leading the mankind to save its time but in the field of optometry and every other healthcare department there is a need of healthcare professionals at primary level who can help patients in diagnosis of their ailments. The artificial intelligence tools can help you in the information regarding the treatment but they cannot properly diagnose the exact health condition without healthcare professional but they are helpful in data aggregation, information for intra-ocular lens calculation, evaluating the size of structures of eye etc. AI tools without healthcare and eyecare professionals are limited to use.
